Studies in the Psalms
The Psalms have been blessing believers for centuries. The amazing thing is that even though these psalms were written thousands of years ago, they offer guidance and help for our modern challenges and problems. God has been speaking to his people through the psalms for a long time. When you study them, you will find he will also speak to you!
To make it easier to find the Psalms, I am dividing this list along the traditional Hebrew Masoretic Psalter division of five books. Each one of these books seems to end with a doxology of praise that was appended to conclude the section. It is interesting to read these doxologies. They are located in Psalm 41:14, 72:18-19, 89:53, 106:48, and the entire Psalm 150 as the doxology of the last section and probably of all of the psalms. Books 1 and 2 were probably the initial psalm book assembled by David when he instituted the temple worship in Jerusalem. Book 3 was most likely psalms added to the psalm book by those first temple musicians such as Asaph. Books 4 and 5 may have been added later in the history of Israel, although many of these psalms seem to have been composed and known at a much earlier time.
