With a Thankful Heart - 1 Chronicles 16:4

He appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to make petition, to give thanks, and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel.

When the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Israel, King David pitched a tent and brought the ark into it. David was so overjoyed with the ark’s return that he danced before the Lord and wanted to show his gratitude to God for returning the symbol of God’s divine presence in their midst. So David appointed Levites to minister before the ark every day. They were to make petition, give thanks, and praise God. Perhaps this would be a good thing for us to do this Thanksgiving season. Let us go before the Lord every day until Thanksgiving, and pour our hearts out to the one who has bestowed upon us so many blessings.

Let us make petition - as we bring before God our needs and areas of concern for the next year. Let us pray for God’s continued help and for guidance and direction in everything we undertake this year. Let us pray for our family, our church, our neighbors, our friends. Make your petitions to God this year and expect an answer!

Let us give thanks - show our gratitude and appreciation for all the wonderful blessings God has given us this past year. Let us come to our Redeemer with a thankful heart for all the divine favor shown to us.

Let us praise God - lift our hearts and our voices to our Creator. Let our hearts worship and our lips sing out praise. May we acknowledge God’s many benefits to us and praise him for his divine care and protection.

As we begin making preparations for the turkey, pumpkin pie and family get-together, let’s not forget that Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on God’s goodness. Let us honor God this year and tell him how much we love him.

Dave
